Great news for commuters! According to the Shuangliu District Transportation Bureau, the first phase of the airport front hub relief project is set to begin construction soon.

The project will build a new right-turn ramp connecting the airport expressway with Xihanggang Avenue. Once completed, vehicles traveling from Chengdu toward the Shuangliu area will no longer need to make a detour through the airport front plaza.

Preliminary work, including the setup of temporary facilities, on-site safety inspections, temporary tree relocation, and traffic organization plan approvals, has been completed. Construction crews are now preparing to begin the fencing-off process.

The project is located in Dongsheng and Xihanggang sub-districts of Shuangliu District, starting at the airport expressway toll station and ending at Xihanggang Avenue. It spans approximately 1,190 meters in length with a road width ranging from 9.5 to 15.5 meters. Supporting municipal facilities will also be improved as part of the plan to boost development vitality in the area.

Under the design proposal, the right-turn ramp will branch off from Airport Road as a two-lane one-way connection into the existing Xihanggang Avenue, enabling direct access between the airport expressway and Xihanggang Avenue. The project will also construct pedestrian walkways to ensure safety for foot traffic, along with separation barriers to maintain independent operation of all traffic flows.

Once complete, this new right-turn passage will allow vehicles heading from Chengdu via the airport expressway to the Shuangliu urban area to turn directly onto Xihanggang Avenue without entering the airport front plaza area. This will effectively divert through traffic, ease congestion near the airport front district, and improve overall regional traffic efficiency.

The first phase of the airport front hub relief project represents a practical step by Shuangliu to enhance its municipal road network and resolve key traffic bottlenecks. Under the "strengthen county, activate district" development strategy, Shuangliu continues to shore up transportation infrastructure gaps and smooth both internal and external circulation. This approach improves residents' travel experiences while activating regional development potential, laying a solid transportation foundation for high-quality growth in the area.

During the construction period, some sections of the road will be fenced off for work, which may affect surrounding traffic and daily commutes. The relevant authorities ask for understanding and patience from the public as they look forward to the swift completion of the project, ushering in a new era of convenient transportation in Shuangliu.
