Chemical Raw Material Producer Prices See 5.2% Rise in First Eight Months

Latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics, released on September 9, reveals that producer prices in the chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing sector climbed 5.2% year-on-year during the January-August period.

In August 2026 specifically, the national Producer Price Index (PPI) for industrial goods rose 3.8% year-on-year and 0.4% month-on-month. Within this, the oil and natural gas extraction industry, the oil, coal and other fuel processing sector, and the chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing industry all saw significant gains compared to the same period last year, with increases of 10.5%, 11.1% and 9.1%, respectively. On a monthly comparison basis, these figures were up 6.1% and 3.5%, but down 0.1% for the chemical sector.

For August, the Producer Purchase Price Index (PPPI) for industrial goods increased 5.8% year-on-year and 0.3% month-on-month. Breaking this down, fuel and power category prices rose 9.8% year-on-year and 1.4% month-on-month. Chemical raw material prices saw a year-on-year jump of 9.5% but a slight month-on-month dip of 0.4%. Textile raw material prices were up 3.8% year-on-year and 0.6% month-on-month.

Looking at the broader eight-month period from January to August, the industrial producer price index averaged 2.0% higher than the same timeframe last year, while the industrial producer purchase price index increased by 3.2%. During this period, the year-on-year increases were recorded at 8.2% for the oil and natural gas extraction industry, 4.7% for the oil, coal and other fuel processing sector, and 5.2% for the chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing industry.
