At the recent global Airport Experience Summit hosted by the Airports Council International (ACI), Shanghai Pudong International Airport received the distinguished title of "Best Airport in the Asia-Pacific Region for 2025 (Over 40 Million Passengers)." This accolade further strengthens its reputation for service excellence and enhances its standing as one of the region's most reliable aviation gateways.
Beyond this recognition, the airport also achieved an outstanding milestone by ranking first in passenger satisfaction for the sixth consecutive year, tying with other leading airports in a comprehensive evaluation that encompassed 380 airports worldwide. The annual ACI Airport Service Quality program serves as a prominent benchmark in civil aviation, assessing and honoring services at key global hubs through eight specific criteria and a set of 31 performance indicators.
Looking at its operational performance for the year 2025, Shanghai Pudong saw a total of 557,000 flight movements, recording a 5.5% year-on-year increase. Passenger volume reached 84.995 million, reflecting a robust annual growth of 10.7%. Furthermore, the airport facilitated 13.75 million transfer passengers, a 14% increase from the previous year, with a transfer rate of 16.2%, positioning its scale at the forefront nationally and leading within Northeast Asia.
To accommodate the continued surge in passenger traffic, the airport has worked in close coordination with customs, border inspection, police, and airline partners to establish a streamlined aviation procedures committee. As part of its enhanced service ecosystem, it has introduced defined minimum connection times, a "hassle-free transit" policy, late-night lounges, and guaranteed amenities for delayed flights. The dedicated "Baggage 1040" task force now ensures that, under normal circumstances, the first checked bag is delivered within 10 minutes of arrival and the last within 40 minutes, achieving a compliance rate above 95% for all inbound flights from international and Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan routes.
Technological integration has also improved the passenger experience. Domestic outbound baggage is now 92% covered by radio frequency identification (RFID) tracking, allowing travelers to view the status of their luggage for up to three days via the Shanghai Airport WeChat mini-program. Centered around the "Easy Transit" hub brand, Pudong Airport has rolled out 24-hour security and customs clearance for departing international and regional flights, equipped with sleep pods, complimentary central rest areas, and shower facilities. Restaurants now operate extended late-night hours, and multilingual guides are available alongside a passport-verified Wi-Fi service that simplifies internet access.
Additional special features, including dedicated care zones and infant-friendly spaces, have been established, and the airport has partnered with carriers to offer interline baggage direct-transfer service, enabling passengers on connecting flights between airlines and terminals to complete their check-in just once. With these broad-based improvements, Shanghai Pudong intends to deliver a warm, fluent, and memorable journey for all international visitors, ensuring that everyone feels like a valued guest from arrival to departure.
