Iran has announced it attacked three tankers navigating the Strait of Hormuz without its authorization, along with several vessels linked to the United States, in retaliation for US strikes on Iranian oil tankers over the weekend. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy provided no further details on these incidents or whether the vessels were actually hit. The IRGC later added that it had also targeted a US Navy drone and an unmanned US surface vessel attempting to enter the strait. There is currently no independent confirmation of further attacks around the waterway.

The IRGC's statements came after the US military said it had struck three Iranian tankers, destroying one, in response to ballistic missile attacks by the IRGC on two US Navy warships. This latest exchange of reciprocal attacks underscores that the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran more than six months ago shows little sign of ending in the near term. According to Kpler data, visible vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz—the vital link between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman—remains sparse, with only one bulk carrier passing through on Saturday.

Iran's parliamentary speaker, Kалибаф, who previously served as chief negotiator in ceasefire talks, warned on Sunday that the era of "proportional responses" is over. He stated that the US "must understand before it is too late that the rules of the game have changed," adding, "From now on, any aggression against Iran's interests and security will be met with a faster, more violent, and more painful response."

The US Central Command reported on Saturday that among the tankers it targeted, the Suezmax-class vessel Kylo had sunk in the Gulf of Oman, the Suezmax tanker Stark I was left without propulsion in the same area, and the Very Large Crude Carrier Downy was also disabled near Iran's key oil export hub on Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf. Central Command noted that the crew of the Kylo had been notified to abandon ship before the strike, and shipping data indicated the vessel was not carrying crude oil at the time. In its statement, the IRGC Navy reiterated a warning to all ships against using the waterway without its sanctioned routes.
