Producer Price Index Rises 3.8% Year-on-Year in August, According to Official Data

Official statistics reveal that in August 2026, producer prices for industrial goods climbed 3.8% compared to the same month last year, with a month-on-month increase of 0.4%.

Meanwhile, the purchasing prices for industrial producers advanced 5.8% year-on-year and edged up 0.3% from the previous month. Looking at the cumulative figures for the first eight months of 2026, producer prices for industrial goods recorded an average gain of 2.0% from the corresponding period a year earlier, while purchasing prices rose by 3.2%.

Year-on-Year Price Movements

In August, within the producer price index for industrial goods, prices for means of production increased 5.0% year-on-year, contributing approximately 3.92 percentage points to the overall index rise. Breaking this down, the mining and quarrying industry saw prices surge 17.8%, the raw materials industry rose 6.7%, and the processing industry advanced 3.1%.

Conversely, prices for consumer goods declined 0.5%, dragging the overall producer price index down by roughly 0.10 percentage points. Within this category, food prices fell 2.3%, clothing prices dropped 1.2%, and prices for general daily-use goods decreased 0.8%, though durable consumer goods prices increased 1.2%.

For industrial producer purchasing prices, non-ferrous metal materials and wire-related products led with a 19.8% surge, followed by fuel and power costs at 9.8%, chemical raw materials at 9.5%, textile raw materials at 3.8%, and ferrous metal materials at 0.3%. On the downside, prices for building materials and non-metallic minerals fell 3.2%, while agricultural and sideline products declined 0.5%.

Month-on-Month Price Movements

On a monthly basis, prices for means of production rose 0.4% in August, contributing about 0.32 percentage points to the overall monthly increase. Within this segment, mining and quarrying prices climbed 2.7%, raw materials prices gained 0.8%, and processing industry prices remained flat.

Prices for consumer goods edged up 0.2% month-on-month, adding roughly 0.04 percentage points to the total monthly change. Food and clothing prices stayed steady, general daily-use goods prices dipped 0.2%, and durable consumer goods prices advanced 0.6%.

For industrial producer purchasing prices on a monthly basis, fuel and power costs rose 1.4%, non-ferrous metal materials and wire products gained 0.8%, and textile raw materials increased 0.6%. Meanwhile, ferrous metal materials prices declined 0.6%, chemical raw materials dropped 0.4%, and prices for agricultural by-products as well as building materials and non-metallic minerals held steady. These figures summarise the key producer price data for August 2026.
