Uzbekistan has unveiled ambitious plans to significantly expand its uranium production, targeting nearly double its current output within the next five years.

The Central Asian nation aims to increase its annual uranium production to 15,000 tonnes by 2030, a substantial rise from the approximately 8,000 tonnes anticipated this year, according to a report citing the Ministry of Mining and Geology. In 2025, the country's uranium output is projected to reach nearly 7,000 tonnes.

Citing data from the International Atomic Energy Agency, the report highlights Uzbekistan's position as the world's fifth-largest uranium producer, while its reserves rank seventh globally.

For context, data from the World Nuclear Association shows that Kazakhstan remains the dominant global leader, with an output of 25,839 tonnes in 2025, representing roughly 40% of total worldwide production.
