Hong Kong Stocks Midday Review | Hang Seng Index Flat in Morning Session, Optical Communication Sector Rises in Tandem With Global Peers

The Hong Kong stock market's Hang Seng Index showed no change during the morning session, holding at 25,316 points, while the Hang Seng Tech Index slipped 0.58%. Total turnover in the Hong Kong market reached HK$107.3 billion.

Overnight, US-listed optical communication stocks surged on the back of major commercial collaborations. Qualcomm announced a multi-generational custom AI chip partnership with Amazon, a deal that deeply encompasses high-speed optical interconnect technology used to link computing components. Orders for these chips could reach as high as US$60 billion over the next decade. Meanwhile, Corning Inc. revealed a multi-year supply agreement worth several billion US dollars with US telecom giant Verizon, extending through 2032.

Shares of Lightelligence-P (01879) jumped 20%, HaiGuang XinZheng (01191) climbed 10.5%, Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable (06869) advanced 7.59%, and Junzhi Group (01300) rose 7%.

Weichai Power (02338) extended its rally, adding more than 6% to lead the blue-chip index. The company has become a Hang Seng Index constituent and saw first-half sales of data center diesel generators surpass its full-year total for last year.

Freight rates across the two major shipping sub-sectors — oil tankers and dry bulk — moved higher. COSCO Shipping Energy (01138) gained more than 5%, while Pacific Basin Shipping (02343) rose over 3%.

Yunyinggu Technology (03310) advanced more than 6% after being officially included in the Stock Connect program. The company has achieved volume shipments of high-end AMOLED display driver chips.

Public Financial Holdings (00626) surged over 41% upon resumption of trading after its major shareholder, Public Bank, proposed a privatization offer at a premium of approximately 61.29%.

"The first AI-consciousness robotics stock," Youdi Robot (03231), made its market debut and skyrocketed 159% in the morning session.

Jiaxin International Resources (03858) rose more than 6% as Zimbabwe's escalating mining ban continues to tighten tungsten supply constraints.

Jinhai Medical Technology (02225) gained another 14% in morning trading, bringing its cumulative advance to nearly 60% since being included in the Stock Connect program. The company's minimally invasive medical business surged more than threefold year-over-year in the first half.

Haidilao (06862) fell 9.49% in the morning, with 259 million shares changing hands before the market opened, fueling speculation of a possible share sale by a major shareholder.
