Hualan Biological Vaccine Inc. (301207.SZ) announced it has received the "Drug Clinical Trial Approval Notice" from the National Medical Products Administration for its novel influenza virus mRNA vaccine.
The newly developed vaccine leverages an mRNA technology platform, delivering mRNA encoding influenza virus-related antigens to express the corresponding proteins in vivo, thereby eliciting an immune response in the host.
According to publicly available research, mRNA vaccine technology offers flexible antigen design and relatively shorter design and production cycles. These attributes position it as a promising tool to counter influenza antigen drift and facilitate rapid updates to vaccine strains.
As of the disclosure date, no influenza mRNA vaccine has been officially approved for market release in China, and no other similar product has been reported to have secured clinical trial approval in the country.
Overseas, Moderna's influenza mRNA vaccine received FDA approval in August 2026, while comparable candidates from GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer remain in clinical development stages.
