Road construction projects across Chengdu are making significant progress, with several key routes set to open soon. These developments span multiple districts, promising to improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion for residents.
The Airport Station Front Hub Relief Project (Phase 1) is about to commence construction in Shuangliu District, aiming to streamline travel from downtown Chengdu toward Shuangliu. The project will build a new right-turn ramp connecting the airport expressway directly to Xihanggang Avenue, eliminating the need for vehicles to detour through the airport station front plaza. Preliminary work, including temporary facility setup, on-site safety inspections, temporary tree relocation, and traffic organization plan approvals, has been completed, with construction crews preparing to begin fencing operations.
Located in Dongsheng and Xihanggang subdistricts of Shuangliu District, the project spans approximately 1,190 meters with a road width ranging from 9.5 to 15.5 meters. The right-turn ramp will connect from the airport road in a one-way two-lane configuration to the existing Xihanggang Avenue, achieving direct connectivity between the airport expressway and the avenue. Pedestrian walkways and isolation barriers will be incorporated to ensure safe, independent traffic flow. Upon completion, this new right-turn corridor will allow vehicles heading from Chengdu to Shuangliu city center via the airport expressway to turn directly onto Xihanggang Avenue without entering the airport plaza area. This will effectively divert through traffic, alleviate congestion in the airport front area, and enhance overall regional traffic efficiency.
In Pidu District, two livelihood-focused roads have been fully opened to traffic: the Wanjiatuo Road (Rongxingyuan Section) and Xifang Road (Jiaoda Hospital Section). These simultaneous completions have resolved longstanding issues of curved roadways, inconvenient detours, and poor traffic flow that have troubled the area for years.
The Wanjiatuo Road (Rongxingyuan Section) renovation project is located in the Rongxingyuan area of Xueyuan Community, Xipu Subdistrict, with a total length of 230 meters. The original road featured sharp curves and narrow lanes, making vehicle passing difficult. The project implemented curve straightening and lane widening, upgrading the former 6-meter-wide two-lane road to a standard two-way four-lane configuration. Complementary infrastructure including sidewalks, non-motorized vehicle lanes, and street lighting has been added, along with landscape improvements along the Rongxingyuan side. These enhancements effectively improve local traffic circulation and greatly benefit nearby residents and school commuters.
Nearby, the Xifang Road (Jiaoda Hospital Section) has also opened to traffic, starting at the Jiaoyuan Road traffic light intersection and ending at the entrance of Southwest Jiaotong University Hospital, covering a total length of 100 meters. The project removed the original curved section to achieve a smooth connection with Jiaoyuan Road, widened the road from two lanes to four lanes, and upgraded the green landscape along the route. These improvements have significantly enhanced the road appearance and travel environment in the area.
In Chenghua District, the Minxing South First Road市政道路建设项目 has officially been completed. This former "dead-end road" located in the Erxianqiao area has now finished its road construction and supporting facilities, with the road expected to officially open to traffic by the end of this year. The new two-way four-lane asphalt road features pristine markings, flat sidewalks paved with stone-like PC bricks, neatly planted street trees, and all necessary lighting, traffic signals, and signage already installed. Utility infrastructure including electrical conduits and water supply and drainage networks have completed final commissioning on both sides of the road.
Residents in the area have expressed relief at the completion. One nearby resident noted that the road was previously blocked, forcing long detours for daily activities like school drop-offs and grocery shopping. With the road now widened and smoothed, residents are eagerly anticipating its official opening for convenient access. The completion of Minxing South First Road has unblocked a critical link in the regional road network, improved municipal infrastructure, and enhanced the overall urban image and functional quality of the area.
