In an exclusive development, Xiaomi Group-W has announced a significant leadership reshuffle within its international business division as of this morning. Tang Li has been appointed as Vice President of the International Business Department and General Manager of the South Asia Regional Division, reporting directly to Zeng Xueshong, the group's Senior Vice President and President of the International Business Department.
Company records indicate that Tang Li has been a key figure in managing Xiaomi's overseas expansion for an extended period. Back in 2023, he was named General Manager of the Southeast Asia Regional Division and Country Manager for Thailand, operating under the supervision of Xiang Zheng, who served as Vice President of the International Business Department at that time. However, Xiang Zheng departed from Xiaomi in 2024.
During Tang Li's stewardship of the Southeast Asian market, Xiaomi experienced a notable surge in regional market share. According to data from Canalys, in the second quarter of 2025, Xiaomi shipped 4.7 million units in Southeast Asia, capturing a 19% market share. This performance edged out Transsion's 18% and Samsung's 17%, marking the first time in four years that Xiaomi has ascended to the position of the largest smartphone manufacturer in Southeast Asia. The region was subsequently hailed by the company as a benchmark case for its international expansion efforts.
Beyond the growth in its smartphone business, Southeast Asia has also served as the launchpad for Xiaomi's large home appliance products overseas, where the company has achieved impressive results. With Tang Li's latest promotion to Vice President of the International Business Department and General Manager of the South Asia Regional Division, there are growing indications that Xiaomi intends to replicate the successful playbook of its home appliance expansion in new overseas territories. Earlier reports have suggested that Xiaomi is accelerating its push into India's white goods sector, planning to roll out major appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines in the local market during the second half of this year.
