Inner Mongolia has successfully secured 13 centrally supported competitive evaluation projects for 2026, out of 15 eligible for application, according to the region's Department of Finance. This achievement follows the implementation of a supporting measures document designed to enhance the region's ability to attract central government backing.
A dual-pronged strategy of policy enhancements and financial support has been deployed to boost Inner Mongolia's competitiveness in securing these project approvals. The 13 secured projects span a wide range of sectors, including the energy transition, industrial development, ecological protection, infrastructure upgrades, and public services.
Under central government policy, these projects could collectively receive up to 5.433 billion yuan in subsidies, which will be allocated over several years.
The project portfolio includes a single energy transition project, a hydrogen energy comprehensive application pilot city cluster initiative, which aims to expand hydrogen applications, foster emerging industries, and support carbon peak and neutrality goals. Three industrial projects were approved, including a national advantageous and distinctive industrial cluster project, designed to strengthen leading industries and boost regional economic vitality.
Additionally, three projects focus on ecological and environmental protection and restoration, including a national beautiful rivers and lakes pilot, to advance comprehensive water ecology management. Three infrastructure projects, including a comprehensive freight hub initiative, will improve road-rail-water intermodal transport and enhance energy and strategic resource storage capacity. The final three projects are service-oriented, such as a prize invoice pilot, intended to stimulate consumer spending and support the recovery of the commercial services sector.
To complement the central funds, Inner Mongolia plans to allocate 1.31 billion yuan in matching support for these projects in 2026. This local investment is expected to channel resources into key areas like infrastructure, industrial upgrades, ecological protection, and public welfare, providing strong fiscal backing for the region's high-quality development.
