Jiangsu Unveils 39 Exemplary Smart Construction Site Cases

Jiangsu's Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has recently released the 2025 Collection of Exemplary Smart Construction Site Application Scenarios. Following independent corporate applications, local recommendations, and expert evaluations, 39 cases were selected, showcasing innovations such as robotic workers, automated deep foundation pit monitoring, and drone-based intelligent inspections. These technologies are making construction sites more perceptive and responsive, enhancing safety, efficiency, and intelligence in engineering projects.

Material transport on construction sites has entered a new era of unmanned operations. The fourth-generation residential project at Nanjing's NO.2023G05 plot has implemented a fully automated transport system, integrating crawler-type AGVs, unmanned forklifts, driverless tower cranes, and intelligent vertical material lifting platforms. This collaborative system enables round-the-clock, precision delivery of critical materials like steel reinforcement cages, significantly reducing turnaround and waiting times, and boosting material transport efficiency by over 40%.

Construction surveying has gained robotic assistants. To address the low efficiency and blind spots inherent in traditional manual measurement, the Taodu Future Technology Industrial Park project has introduced high-precision floor surveying robots. Using LiDAR for automatic site mapping and route planning, these robots can complete 488 measurement points over a 100-square-meter area in just six minutes, autonomously generating contour maps and smoothness reports. With millimeter-level accuracy, a single unit can survey tens of thousands of square meters daily, more than tripling operational efficiency.

Deep foundation pit monitoring in subway construction now benefits from an "intelligent sentinel." The Wangzhuang Road Station of Wuxi Metro Line 5's first phase has established an automated monitoring system combining sensor collection, 5G transmission, and a smart cloud platform. This system provides uninterrupted 24-hour surveillance of wall displacement, groundwater levels, and support axial forces, featuring a three-tiered yellow, orange, and red early warning mechanism. With real-time data upload and proactive risk identification, monitoring precision rivals manual methods while cutting costs by over 60%, ensuring the stability of surrounding buildings throughout the process.

High-altitude operations with multiple tower cranes are now overseen by an "air traffic controller." The Wuxi Olympic Sports Industry Center Phase II project focuses on the safety challenges of clustered crane operations by implementing an L2-level AI anti-collision braking system, replacing human management with machine control. During peak construction, 18 tower cranes operate simultaneously. Through multi-level anti-collision threshold settings, the system automatically decelerates in stages and eventually halts the crane boom if it approaches a safety boundary. AI cameras also capture instances of driver fatigue or distractions like mobile phone use in real time. From the system's launch in April 2024 to the dismantling of all cranes in January this year, the 18 tower cranes achieved a flawless "zero collision" record.

Construction site inspections now feature "three-dimensional sentry coverage." The infrastructure project (Phase I) in Jiangsu Hangji High-tech Industrial Park has innovatively adopted a combined approach of "unmanned aerial vehicle wide-area high-altitude patrols and ground quadruped robots for blind spot detection," effectively eliminating blind spots in high-altitude and perimeter inspections. The patrol time for a one-square-kilometer area has been reduced from three to seven days with manual labor to just four hours, with single-unit inspection efficiency improved 36-fold compared to traditional methods.
