A senior US official signaled on Saturday that the military strikes on three Iranian oil tankers represent a forceful extension of Washington's economic pressure campaign against Tehran, with a clear warning that further measures could follow if needed.

Rick Crawford, chairman of the US House Intelligence Committee, stated that the operation was designed to drive home the message that Iran's current stance has become unsustainable. "This should make Tehran realize that its present position is no longer tenable," Crawford said, emphasizing that Iran must alter its approach. He described the action as a powerful signal aimed at shifting Iranian behavior.

The lawmaker characterized the strikes as the "military execution component" of the broader sanctions strategy, arguing that economic measures require credible military backing to be truly effective.
