OpenAI has announced it is deepening its collaborative efforts with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (SSNLF) across multiple sectors, including advanced semiconductors and enterprise-level AI services. The company highlighted that its most significant progress with the South Korean tech titan lies in the joint production and research focused on its upcoming next-generation chips.
Harrison Kim, OpenAI's Country General Manager for Korea, made these remarks during a press conference held in Seoul on Wednesday. He noted that while the partnership has grown in various areas, the cooperative work on developing advanced chip technology stands out as the most acknowledged achievement thus far. However, Kim declined to provide specific technical details or timelines regarding the new chip projects.
Beyond the hardware development, Kim also pointed out that Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is among the largest corporate adopters of ChatGPT on a global scale. He highlighted how the company’s employees across its operations in Korea and abroad utilize the AI tool extensively in their daily workflows, spanning functions such as research and development, marketing, and sales activities.
Kim further explained that the demand for memory chips is expected to rise steadily as the industry pushes toward faster and more complex computing capabilities. This technological escalation makes collaboration with Korean semiconductor suppliers a strategic priority for OpenAI’s local office, solidifying the region’s role in the company’s broader supply chain and innovation roadmap.
