South Korea to Merge Five State-Run Power Generators into KEPCO Unit

South Korea plans to merge five state-run power generation companies into a single entity, Korea Power, which in turn will be a subsidiary of Korea Electric Power or KEPCO (KRX:015760) by October 2027.
The integration aims to strengthen energy transition implementation, streamline management, and reduce costs for electricity consumers, according to a Friday news release from South Korea's Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment.
The new company will possess approximately 53 GW of capacity and will lead renewable energy expansion while systematically phasing out coal power.
