Metcash (ASX:MTS) said its total sales excluding tobacco rose 2.8% in the first 18 weeks of fiscal 2027, and grew 3.5% when including tobacco, according to a Wednesday filing with the Australian bourse.

Total food sales excluding tobacco ticked 2.6% higher, while total liquor sales gained 0.8% and aggregate tools and hardware sales increased 6%, per the filing.

The company warned that it expects fiscal first-half earnings to be impacted by adverse sales mix in its Superior business, the removal of accelerated tobacco excise increase, and persistent cost inflation in the food and liquor segments.

The company's shares added 1% in recent Wednesday trade.
