Nine Entertainment (ASX:NEC) has extended its Australian Premier League rights deal through the 2033 to 2034 season, from the previous 2028 to 2029 season, retaining all broadcast and streaming rights, primarily through Stan, according to a Thursday Australian bourse filing.

The rights fee is expected to remain broadly in line with fiscal 2028 initially, before increasing at around a 3% compound annual growth rate over the contract term, per the filing.

The renewal provides long-term certainty for Stan Sport, with its Premier League rights contributing to a 50% increase in average sports subscribers over the past year.

The company expects the loss of Optus contributions to increase Stan's costs, but believes this will be offset by removing legacy Optus subscriber discounts and implementing other cost and revenue initiatives, the filing said.

Meanwhile, Stan's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization have more than doubled, rising to AU$81 million in fiscal 2026 from AU$40 million in fiscal 2021, the filing added.
