Microsoft-Backed OpenAI Halts Pro Subscriptions Due to Astra Demand

Microsoft (MSFT)-backed OpenAI has paused new subscriptions to its $200-per-month Pro plan due to strong demand for its latest model, Astra, product chief Thibault Sottiaux said Thursday in a post on X.

Sottiaux said the Pro tier places the heaviest load on OpenAI's systems and halting sign-ups is necessary to maintain service for existing users.

Existing Pro accounts are not affected, while other subscription plans and the API remain available, according to Sottiaux.
