Microsoft (MSFT)-backed OpenAI faces a Senate investigation into its handling of a July cyber incident involving Hugging Face, Axios reported Thursday, citing a letter it obtained.

In a letter to CEO Sam Altman, Sen. Josh Hawley, who chairs the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs subcommittee on Disaster Management, called OpenAI's response "reckless" and said the company's internal report omitted key details, according to the report.

Hawley is seeking answers from Altman by Oct. 1, including responses to 16 questions and documents related to the incident, Axios said.

OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
