Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI said Tuesday that an internal artificial intelligence model produced a solution for the Navier-Stokes fluid dynamics problem with proof.
The artificial intelligence model used thousands of coordinating agents to generate the proof for the 90-year-old maths problem, the company said.
The company's work was then criticized by Tristan Buckmaster, a professor of the subject from New York University, who said OpenAI rushed its project after discovering unreleased research on the topic.
OpenAI denied accessing any private data from the external researchers to achieve its solution to the fluid dynamics problem, OpenAI said.
Representatives for OpenAI reportedly pressured Buckmaster to exclude co-author Levent Alpoge to avoid sharing credit with its rival, Amazon-backed (AMZN) Anthropic's Claude, which was also used by Buckmaster when working on the solution, he said.
