Workday named Sarah Kennedy Ellis, a marketing leader with experience at Google and Adobe, as its next chief marketing officer.

Kennedy Ellis's appointment takes effect Oct. 5, the company said Thursday. She succeeds Emma Chalwin, who is departing Workday to take on the CMO role at Accenture.

Kennedy Ellis joins Workday from Google, where she led global marketing for its cloud and workspace businesses. She was previously CMO of Adobe Experience Cloud, and of Marketo, which was acquired by Adobe in 2018.

Kennedy Ellis will report to Chief Executive Aneel Bhusri, and take responsibility for Workday's brand narrative and growth strategy for the AI era, the company said.
