On September 16, President Donald Trump posted on social media platform X, calling for U.S. interest rates to be lowered to 1% or less, arguing that the United States has the best credit in the world and that the economy is booming with new investment.

"Interest Rates in the United States should be 1%, or less, because we are the Best Credit in the World — BY FAR," Trump wrote. He added that if the U.S. stopped trading with every country with which it has a trade deficit—"which is most of them"—the country would make at least $1.5 trillion a year. Trump described the word "deficit" as merely a fancy term for "loss," and stated that the U.S. is "carrying" almost every country in the world, a situation he said "cannot go on any longer."

He concluded with a direct demand: "LOWER THE INTEREST RATES FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND FAST!"
