McDonald's (MCD) is expected to highlight its strategy to improve performance, including updated financial targets, at its investor day event Sept. 23, UBS said in a Monday note.

The note said focus will be on plans to improve US performance, details on NEXT growth strategy, global unit growth forecasts, and a refreshed long-term financial framework.

The report said investor expectations for the event are "reasonably" low, with sentiment on shares remaining more negative amid concerns around pressured sales trends and a

challenging industry backdrop.

Still, the report said risk/reward is attractive with shares at the lower end of historical valuation ranges, adding that plans to drive US sales growth and its defensive characteristics should provide earnings stability in a volatile environment.

UBS kept its buy rating while lowering its price target to $320 from $340.
